Happy Independence Day! Or should I say, IndepenDANCE day? Probably not. Anyways, everyone here at the Rhythm Company wishes you and yours a happy and safe 4th of July!
July is shaping up to be a warm and busy month. Here’s what we’ve got going on…
**Lindy On The Rocks jack & Jill qualifiers on the 5th
**July progressive Salsa lessons start on the 6th
**Super Swing Workshop on July 18th (No July progressive lessons)
**A Fort Collins Jazz Experience the 8th through the 10th
**Summer Sounds jazz concert at Fox Run Senior Living on the 30th
Details below.
In preparation for Lindy on the Rocks (coming up August 5th through the 8th in Denver), we’re holding a Jack & Jill preliminary competition this Monday at Avo’s! It’s $5 to compete and winners move on to try for a chance at a half-price weekend pass to LOTR and advance directly to the finals. If you don’t win at Avo’s you can try again on the 8th at the Merc, the 9th at the Turn, or the 11th at the VFW in Colorado Springs. Finals will be on the 22nd at the Mercury Cafe. Check out www.lindyontherocks.com for all the info.
Declare your independence from boring dancing and take Salsa lessons! July’s 4-week progressive lessons start on the 6th and continue on the 13th, 20th, and 27th at the Rio from 7:00 to 8:00pm before the usual 8:00 to 10:30 dance. Cost is $35 per person for all four weeks, or $10 per person to drop-in, and includes entry to the dance. No partner or experience is needed, and you can pay at the door or online.
As you probably have noticed, the 4th happens to fall on a Sunday, so there will be no progressive Lindy Hop lessons in July. However, JiveCats *will* be hosting a Super Swing Workshop, all day on Sunday the 18th from 10am to 5:30pm! Six hours of classes for only $40 or $12 for each session to drop-in. The workshop will take place at the CCB South studio at 4103 S Mason St, behind Barnes & Nobel.
**Swing line dances, including the Shim Sham (10:00-11:30)
**Solo Charleston (11:45-1:15)
**Musicality and Style (2:15-3:45)
**Advanced Cool Moves (4:00-5:30)
The classes get more advanced as the day goes on, so session 1 requires no experience, for session 2 you should know the basic Charleston, session 3 will require comfort with the Lindy Hop, and in session 4 your feet may actually leave the ground. This is a great opportunity to learn some great stuff that often doesn’t get taught on a regular basis and really add to your repertoire. Fox Run will serve delicious Mediterranean inspired hors d’oeuvres to delight your palette and keep you dancing. Drop by after work or duck out of the office early but don’t miss this jazzy feast for the senses.
